COMPANIES IN THE NETWORK

Lectures of an entrepreneur

Björn Söderberg, the founder of Fair Enterprise Network, is an inspiring entrepreneur with a fascinating story. During the lecture you get to follow him on a journey that will let you know how Nepal became his second home. Björn shares his experiences from constructing profit making companies that implement social responsibility. He states that if good ethics is implementing in the foundations, it will not only make the business sustainable it will also make it profitable.

“Social responsibility is profitable first when it is put into practice, it is not enough to write fancy policy documents about it. It is all about creating a business culture where employees are looked upon as important resources, no matter national identity.”

Björn has already, at the age of 25, build three companies, one in Sweden and two in Nepal. They all have a solid base of social responsibility which had been created without lots of time being spent on writing policy documents. A proof of what is actually important, the practice and not the documents. You will be brought along to Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. From there you float through the city on the Bagmati River but it will not be a very pleasant experience. The water in the river is dirty and smelly, contaminated by all sorts of garbage and waste. After spending three months in Kathmandu Björn decided that it was time to do something about that. He started Watabaran, a Nepal recycling company.

"If you have never failed you have never tried”, this is the motto that keeps Björn going and it is manifested in all of his companies as well as in his lectures. His employees have grown a strong self-esteem and former shy house wives have turned into strong managers who run the companies when Björn is not around. Björn constantly challenges old patterns and structures. His latest company, WebSearch Professional, is an IT- company in Nepal working with outsourcing in a very untraditional way with strong values and the human resources in focus. The company is working to prevent the brain-drain and employs young talents who could not afford to finish their university studies.

By using own examples and experiences

Björn puts forward his concepts on how to turn ideas into successful businesses. “You should forget about the paper work and focus on the clients. Sell your product before it has been produced. Work to overcome your own mental boundaries. The first and most important step is to get your first costumer.” He gives examples of both successes stories and failures and the spirit and energy surrounding him when he talks about entrepreneurship is arousing. It is like the creative joy is catching on and you leave the room with a feeling that nothing is impossible.

3. Work HARD

"Your speech to us Scandic managers was one of the highlights of the conference and did a lot to add an out-of-the-box dimension to what so easily could have detoriated into yet another boring business meeting" Jean-Paul Herzog, Manager Hilton and Scandic, Nordic Region

"Björn offered us several concrete ideas as well as tons of inspiration. The blend of an important message, concrete information, a playful presentation, and vast knowledge in the field provided a lasting impression." - Lena Dager Hultman, consultant and project manager for "Andra Halvlek", a campaign within the European Social Fond.
